Abel Super Series Reels

2009 marks the 10th year Abel has made Large Arbor Super Series Reels
And no, they are NOT saying goodbye to the 21-year-old series of Big Game reels. Abel has simply renamed them Super Series Standard Arbor Reels (see below).

Super Large Arbor:

Abel did not invent the Large Arbor reel, but they’ve been making them for 12 years, which certainly makes them pioneers. They have developed the perfect ratio of arbor (hub) size to the overall spool. Too big a hub and there’s not enough backing capacity; too small and you’ve defeated the purpose of a large arbor spool. Abel’s? Just right!

Super Standard Arbor (formerly Big Game):

These are the reels that revolutionized fly-fishing – tough as a cement truck, reliable as a school clock, and classic in their own time. With models for virtually every line weight and type of fish, you can mix and match the Standard and Large arbor spools to double your pleasure.

All Super Series reels come standard ported (ventilated) using a "rounded oblong" design that maintains total strength and rigidity in the metal. They're light, yet retain all of Abel's traditional strength and integrity. Super Series reels are also available with a solid frame if you wish – same price. (All weights given are for standard ported models.)

Reel frame, spool, drag knob and foot are 6061-T651 cold finished aerospace grade aluminum

Teflon sealed bearings are ISO9001:2000 and AS9100 Certified FAA TSO C149 Aircraft Bearings

Cork Drag System is made entirely in our factory. We use a superior high grade Portuguese cork with a little neat’s-foot oil on it.

Double Pawl System: Super Series reel sizes 6 and larger are built with our recently upgraded double pawl system. Advantages include: increased reliability, back-up strength and unique sound.

FlexABELity: Interchange both Large Arbor and Standard Arbor Spools

Reels also have the option of coming with a rosewood, ebony, zebra, walnut, or NEW Aluminum handle.

With Abel's unique FlexABELity of spools and frames, it substantially increases your options. FlexABELity means spools from the Big Game Series fitting into the frames of Large Arbor Super Series and vice versa.
