|What are all you Fishermen doing with your lines when they’re not actually getting a stretch…? How do you manage them; how do you make them work for you? Obsessed fishermen will have more than a handful of lines, maybe even a case full, especially those that travel or fish for a variety of species in a variety of locations and conditions. Dealing with a collection of fly lines is one thing that’s been overlooked, in a world where virtually every other facet of the angler’s needs is catered for with a multitude of fancy products. Existing methods of storing and protecting our lines are still largely a DIY thing – nails on the wall of the garage or old manufacturers’ spools; not much order or protection… And how do you travel with them?|
A good fly line is expensive; it’s worth looking after. It’s also not the most convenient thing to deal with. As travelled fisherman, we believe that what we’re offering here is line management tool covering all the bases in a simple but well considered gadget. OmniSpool LineMan products are intended as an indispensable complement to every line you either already own or are about to buy, not a fashion accessory. That said, the functionality, design and look of the OmniSpool LineMan products are pretty cool. Purpose built and at a fraction of the price of the line it’ll be holding, your Switchbox will more than pay for itself in terms of practicality, convenience, improved overall condition and greatly extended life of your fly line. Plus there are the spare spools you won’t have to buy.
And it’s not just fly fishermen we’re thinking of: they’ll also work well for the carefully made up leaders and traces used with heavier conventional angling gear… “Once you’re using them, you’ll wonder what you did without them.”
We fish. And travel and fish. A lot. The OmniSpool Switchbox is born of our own experience and needs, to solve several problems at once. They’ll probably seem obvious:
1) With spare reel spools no longer needed, you save not only on cash, but also weight.
2) Locating the lines you want when they’re stacked at home takes no time.
3) Identifying your lines is easy. Label your Switchboxes and stack them together in groups (line weights, densities, whatever…)
4) You don’t have to dig around in your bag feeling for loose lines or spools when you’re out fishing, or find they’re not there when you need them because they were too awkward to pack.
5) Your line isn’t a mess when you need it; it’s in good working order.
6) You don’t need four hands or a buddy to deal with rod, reel, lines etc.
7) You don’t need a bulky line winder any more.
8 ) If you use multi tip lines, you might splash out on a spare box to hold the heads, clipped to the side of the main running line. We’ve found that these speciality lines aren’t much use if you can’t find the head wallet…
Omnispool Switchbox features Compact octagonal design that fits neatly in one hand yet will accommodate almost all fly lines
Sturdy but lightweight construction for durability, and you can still see what’s in them when they’re closed
Smooth, non abrasive line aperture in lid
Line guide in center of spool for easy wind up and easy release on the way out (no clips, no slots).
Smooth revolution inside the box, designed to minimize overwind.
One-touch removable box lid; the ‘box can be opened one-handed.
Spool can be clipped to the outside of the Switchbox for use externally: the second half of the shell acts as a stand for winding / unwinding. This in turn can be attached to further stacked Switchboxes for support. Or you can just hold it down with your toes…
Clip lock system enables boxes to be stacked together for travel or storage
Sturdy OmniSpool crank handle (sold separately), grooved to fit through the spool and around the line; fits in either side - so no matter if you’re left or right handed.
Optional slide on LineCarebox (sold separately) for line maintenance; once attached, both Switchbox and LineCarebox can be handled as one unit. Stowed neatly to Switchbox when not in use so you know where it is when you want it.
