Mongoose guard hairs are the perfect barred fly tying material. Each fiber is naturally barred with alternate cream and brown colors and is perfect for use as tails on dry flies, downwings for caddis, Salmon Fly wings, upright dry fly wings, etc. It is a good substitute for gray fox or woodchuck since the barring is usually better and makes a much neater fly.
