Eoin is a fully qualified casting member of the Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors (A.A.P.G.A.I) and World Team Speycasting Champion. At the age of 24, Eoin became one of the youngest ever instructors to qualify in both the A.A.P.G.A.I trout and salmon disciplines and has been professionally teaching fly casting and fly fishing for almost twenty years. Eoin began working as a salmon guide on the famous Makerstoun beat of the River Tweed in 1988, before starting up his teaching practice in 2001 to concentrate on casting instruction and education on the Tweed system. He specialises mainly in teaching modern speycasting techniques in a relaxed and friendly environment at his Centre of Excellence. His teaching philosophy revolves around creating a relaxed and comfortable environment for the student to realise his/her full casting potential. Eoin’s intention is to give the caster an understanding of the fundamental principles of each aspect of fly casting and how they relate to more energy efficient fly presentation.

As well as his teaching practice, Eoin is the Speycasting consultant for Loop Tackle Design of Sweden and designed the company’s range of Classic Spey rods and lines launched in 2007 and the new Opti Power Spey rods being launched in 2009. He has travelled extensively around the world in search of a wide variety of fresh and salt species and regularly hosts fly fishing trips to Loop Tackle Design’s camps in Argentina.

He is a regular features writer for the Trout & Salmon magazine as well as other publications and can be seen demonstrating fly casting during the year at a number major shows including the Trout and Salmon’s Tweed Angling Fair, Lowther Fair and the Cheshire Game Fair.

In 2000, Eoin set up the Tweedstart Angling Program in the Scottish Borders to educate children about fly fishing and the positive impact it has on the environment and the local economy of the Scottish Borders. Tweedstart now works very closley with local schools in Scotland and teaches hundreds of children each year at the Centre of Excellence.

In 2006, Eoin set up the first ever Trout & Salmon Tweed Angling Fair next to the world famous Junction Pool in Kelso. Now in its fourth year, the event is highly regarded as the UK’s leading fly fishing event. This year’s fair will be held on the 2nd & 3rd May 2009. Amongst the major attractions during the 2009 Tweed Angling Fair will be fly casting demonstrations by some of the world’s leading casters and instructors including Scott Mackenzie, Hywel Morgan, Simon Gawesworth, as well as international representation by Klaus Frimor and Jan-Erik Granbo from Scandinavia and Glenda Powell from Ireland. The event will also host leading manufacturers and retailers selling a comprehensive range of this season’s latest angling and fly tying equipment.
