Wapsi Soft Milking Eggs

The most realistic eggs available, and the trout, steelhead, and salmon agree. These eggs have the same consistency and texture as real eggs. When fish eat these, they just don't want to let go. You will out-fish everyone on the river with these soft, chewy, realistic eggs.

Egg colors may bleed, from one color to another. This is especially true with the darker colors touching the lighter colors. Do not mix egg colors together. Keep finished flies, or loose eggs, separate from one another in your fly box or in separate storage compartments.

Some color transfer may be noted on the sides of plastic items, such as zip lock bags or clear plastic fly boxes, especially on the dark Ruby color. Test your fly boxes to ensure they so not react with the eggs. The best boxes to use are those by Plano. They have a clear plastic lid, with a ripple foam insert. Neither the plastic nor inserts react with these eggs, and are an excellent fly box to use.

Do not put eggs on any paper that has printing on it-memo’s, newspapers, articles, etc. The eggs will pick up the black print and other color printing from paper and attach to the eggs.

The best material to place eggs upon when tying is a glass, ceramic or porcelain dish, or a clear glass pane flat upon your tying bench or desktop. Colors do not bleed onto these materials.

Do not store eggs in direct sunlight. The Ruby and red colors could fade or turn transparent. Store in a closed fly box, and away from direct sunlight, as from windows in a store front.

Fishing with eggs will not discolor or fade them.

Check local and state regulations closely; these eggs are made from a soft rubber compound that is so lifelike they may be restricted on certain fly or catch & release waters. Colorado is legal as of 1-1-2006, as long as no scents are applied to the egg fly.

These eggs contain NO amino acids, scents, or other fish attractants.

Try using multiple clusters, 2 to 4, on larger hooks for large King Salmon or Steelhead for the Northwest, Canada, and Alaska waters.

When using the 3 mm and 4 mm egg sizes, thread the egg onto the hook from the point of the barb, rather than the eye of the hook, due to small diameter of these eggs. Then tie a thread base, super glue, and push egg over the thread to the eye. Then take thread under egg to rear of egg, wrap, and then tie in the antron.

Any soft white or other colored egg yarn or antron can be used for the “milking” veil over the egg. Bear’s Den carries Otter’s Milking Veil which is the best quality product.

On larger hooks, #2/0 down to #6 put the egg on first by pushing it through the hook point, instead of over the large eye which may cause tearing.

Place a red dot with a permanent color pen on the transparent colored eggs to imitate the red embryo inside the real eggs or a small black dot to imitate the black eyes on advanced fry inside a developing egg.
